‘Teacher’ wins word of the year vote

“Professor” (teacher) is Portugal’s Word of the Year 2023, chosen by nearly half of the 90,000 participants in the initiative launched by publishing company Porto Editora at the end of November, followed by “doctor” and “Artificial Intelligence”.

48.1% of participants voted for the word “Professor”, which represents around 43,000 votes, followed by “doctor”, with 9.9%, and “Artificial Intelligence”, with 9.8%, according to the results released this Wednesday (January 3).

When the list of the ten “Word of the Year” candidates was released, the word “teacher” was justified by the “hundreds of protests across the country” for the “valorisation of the profession”.
