Teacher on hunger strike admitted to hospital

51-year-old Luís Sottomayor Braga was forced to end the hunger strike he began five days ago, in support of the struggles waged by his profession, due to a “new situation of hypoglycemia” which resulted in him feeling very unwell, with dizziness and tremors. As colleagues supporting the subdirector of a school grouping in Viana do Castelo, the symptoms represented a ‘threat to life’ and thus he was forced to quit his protest. The teacher with a 28-year-career was stabilised in hospital and allowed home in the early hours of this morning, touched, say reports, by the level of concern for his wellbeing. Tomorrow sees the next round of ‘regional strikes’ begin in schools, starting in Porto.
