A 59-year-old Lagoa man was distraught when he received a demand and a fine from the local tax office to pay the road circulation tax for a motorcycle on which his son, aged 22, died in a road accident in Lagoa 13 years ago when the bike was destroyed.
The bill was for €68.25 including the €30 fine. The Lagoa tax office later admitted the error and quashed the amount. but the father and mother claim the incident has brought back bitter memories over their lost son who had the same name as his father.
He had died after his motorcycle was hit by a jeep overtaking badly on the EN125 near the local international school.
