Tax authority warns of phishing emails

“These messages are false and should be ignored” – Finanças

The Portuguese Tax and Customs Authority (AT) warned on Wednesday that false emails were being sent purportedly from the “Autoridade Tributária e Aduaneira” with the aim of leading taxpayers to access malicious pages.

“The Tax and Customs Authority (AT) is aware that some taxpayers are receiving emails supposedly from the AT, in which they are asked to regularise tax payments by downloading an attachment,” the authority said in a statement.

The AT says the aim is to “convince the recipient to access malicious pages by clicking on the suggested links” and warns that taxpayers should, “under no circumstances”, carry out these operations.

These messages are false and should be ignored,” stressed the authority, which refers to its information leaflet on computer security, available on the Finanças Portal.
