The Maritime Transport and Port Association (IPTM) has launched a tender for the construction of a fishing port in Tavira.
According to Tavira Municipality: “Around €10 million will be invested in the construction of the port. It is a priority for the municipality and it is expected to be finished in three years.”
The new infrastructure, which local fishermen say has been needed for a long time, will occupy 4.8 hectares near the Municipal Market and Ponte dos Descobrimentos on the right bank of Rio Gilão and will have the capacity for 72 vessels from 12 to 18 metres and 10 small boats.
It will also have a shipyard, warehouses, a commercial area, an office building and a fuel station for boats.
