Tavira showcases “martial arts and combat sports”

An impressive display of martial arts and combat sports will be held at Tavira’s Praça da República town square on Thursday, June 27.

Organised by the Tavira Ju-Jitsu Club (TJJC), the ‘Martial Arts and Combat Sports Night 2019’ will begin at 8.30pm and will feature two hours of martial arts demonstrations, including Ju-Jitsu, Mugairyu Iaido, Shotokan Karate, Philippino Martials Arts and Capoeira.

Combat sports like Boxing and Kickboxing will also be showcased during the event.

Organisers say the event will be an “eye-catching spectacle” that aims to provide the audience with an “introduction to the sheer diversity” that sets Tavira apart when it comes to sports and leisure activities.

The goal is also to “highlight the daily work of local clubs and associations to promote sports and fitness especially among children and young people”.

The Tavira Ju-Jitsu club has thanked Tavira council, particularly its sports division, for their “invaluable support and assistance” in bringing this event to life as well as the other clubs and associations that have “devoted time and effort to supporting this new and groundbreaking initiative,” including Academia Kombate Fácil de Tavira, Ken Shin Kan Tavira, the Grupo Muzenza Capoeira de Tavira, BoxeArte de Tavira and the Núcleo de Artes Marciais Filipinas de Tavira.

The club says it “hopes and believes that the event will serve to strengthen the ties of friendship and martial cooperation that already exist between the associations involved”.

It adds that it is also working to bring another major event to Tavira in the near future.
