Tavira mayor Jorge Botelho is recovering in hospital today after a ‘heart scare’ that saw him rushed into Faro’s cardiology unit in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Wife Margarida Flores has written over Facebook that what her husband needs now is ‘rest’.
Flores has praised the treatment Botelho received, thanking firefighter first-responders, the INEM team that backed them up and “all the excellent professionals at Faro Hospital who are treating Jorge in the cardiology department”.
“It’s good to know we have a public hospital with excellent professionals that watch out for us when we most need them”, she added.
And in the interests of ‘rest’, Botelho, 51 – who is also president of AMAL, the association of Algarve municipal councils – is recovering without the presence of his mobile phone.
