Mystery surrounds the alleged closure last (Wednesday) night of Tavira’s 4-star Porta Nova Hotel.
Sources calling the story in to the Resident’s offices talked of bully-boy security guards being put on the doors, “disgraceful behaviour by lawyers who would not show business cards” and guests “on the streets”.
For local people, the worst aspect appears to be “staff out of jobs”.
Calls to the hotel this morning came up against a brick wall. No directors are available to talk, said a receptionist who refused three times to accept that the calls had even been made to the Tavira hotel.
“No, you have reached hotel Paraíso de Albufeira,” she told our reporter.
It was only when we telephoned the “central de reservas” that we learnt that all communication to Porta Nova was being diverted to the Paraíso – one of three hotels in the Algarve-based MGE group.
Thus, at time of writing, we cannot confirm the situation. We can only say we will keep the story updated and try and discover what has happened to the jobs of the staff at Porta Nova, a 134-room establishment that prides itself on “Culture and Nature”.
