TAVIRA WILL be celebrating the Christmas period with a series of free public concerts leading up to the New Year.
To kick off the festivities, the music academy’s junior choir will be singing from midday at the Mercado da Ribeira on Sunday.
This concert will be repeated at the same time in the same location on December 13 and 23 and in front of Tavira Câmara on December 20 and 22.
A series of concerts will also take place in churches around Tavira, starting with a guitar performance on Sunday at Igreja da Misericórdia from 6pm.
Other solo artists will perform at this church at the same time on December 13, 20 and 27. On December 22 and 24, the church will host classical music concerts from 5.30pm.
On December 19, a gospel choir will perform a concert entitled Happy Day at Misericórdia church from 5.30pm. The following day, Igreja do Carmo will host a performance by three choirs from 9.30pm.
The festive programme will end with a concert starting at 10pm on New Year’s eve by Orquestra Seis de Portugal, followed by fireworks over the city at midnight and a DJ party by Fábio Palma from 2am.
