Tavira celebrates its Baroque heritage

CELEBRATIONS ARE planned in Tavira to mark Dia Nacional dos Municípios Com Centro Histórico, the national day for municipalities with historic centres, on Tuesday, March 28, in the Clube de Tavira auditorium.

The council wishes to draw attention to the importance of valuing patrimonial heritage, its conservation and the understanding of its important role in socio-economic and cultural development.

The programme of celebrations comprises a range of events enjoying special links with the 17th and 18th centuries, among them a roundtable session and a concert. The objectives of this year’s programme are to encourage reflection and to present evidence of Portugal’s extraordinarily cultural heritage linked to the Baroque period.

Various experts from the fields of architecture, music, art and theatre will be speaking during the roundtable session that begins at 3pm. Following this, there will be the launch of the publication entitled Moedas do Museu Municipal de Tavira (Coins of the Municipal Museum of Tavira) by Conceição Lopes.

In the evening, at 9.30pm, a concert of Baroque music will be performed in the Igreja da Misericórdia by the Capella Patriarchal choir, directed by João Vaz.
