Last week saw the opening of this year’s fifth European film show in Tavira. Held in the cloisters of the convent of Carmo, the event is honouring the best of European film production.
A total of 14 European countries contributed to this year’s festival. The director of the Cineclube Tavira explained that the criteria for organising the event were quality, diversity and accessibility. “During the past few months,” he explains, “we have, step by step, tried to carefully compose a coherent and representative programme, capable of captivating our increasingly faithful public.”
So far, the film festival has screened some of the most popular films of recent cinema, including Love Actually, Dogville, In America and Bend it like Beckham. However, it’s not over yet, so if you missed any of the following films when they were out in the cinema, here’s your chance to catch them. Os Imortals, Goodbye Lenin!, La Mala Educación, Girl with the pearl earring and a one-off special of Any way the wind blows will also be screened on August 9. All showings start at 9.30pm and subtitles are in English and Portuguese.
