Tasty but healthy

A gastronomy competition labelled Healthy Flavours was held at the São Brás de Alportel Municipal Market on June 23, challenging a selection of catering companies and chefs to create dishes and sweets that were as mouth-watering as they were healthy.

As part of a recent project by São Brás de Alportel Câmara, the event aimed to further promote health and wellbeing among the local population, whilst alerting caterers about the importance of adapting to recent market trends that increasingly place emphasis on health and the need to create healthy recipes.

Participants were able to compete in either or both of two categories in the initiative – healthy main dishes and healthy desserts.

The culinary creations produced at the event were judged by a panel of five members from the University of the Algarve, Faro’s  Catering and Tourism School, a Câmara representative, the José Belchior Viegas Schools Group and the Dietetics and Nutrition Department of the School of Health Sciences.

Receiving first place rating in the main meal category was a shrimp and vegetable creamy pasta dish, and winning dessert was a honeycomb, fruit and almond dessert.
