Taste the best pork dishes in the Alentejo!

IF YOU like pork, then the forthcoming Semana Gastronómico do Porco, a week long festival featuring the best traditional pork dishes, being held in the Alentejo from February 21 to 28, is definitely the event for you.

A total of 52 restaurants in the region are due to take part in the festival including eateries from Aljustrel, Alvito, Barrancos, Beja, Castro Verde, Cuba, Ferreira do Alentejo, Mértola, Moura, Ourique and Serpa.

Many of the restaurants will be cooking their dishes with pork from the Alentejo or Iberian pork (black pig). Some of the dishes you can expect to savour include roast leg of pork stuffed with prunes and pine nuts, pork stew with prawns and clams, pork cutlets and pork steaks with raisin rice. There will also be the opportunity to sample the region’s cured meats and sausages, such as presunto and chouriço.
