Event celebrates local fishing community
Quarteira is preparing to host ‘Petiscos do Pescador’ (Fisherman’s Tapas), an annual event in which delicious fresh fish and seafood caught by local fishermen is cooked and served by their own families.
Taking place from Friday to Sunday (June 2-4) at Passeio das Dunas, the event will celebrate the local fishing community and their important role in the town.
One of the highlights of the event promises to be the ‘lavada’ (the act of bringing fishing nets ashore), which will be celebrated on Saturday at 6pm at the beachfront. Everyone is invited to help pull the nets ashore and see the “abundance” of seafood that can still be found in the waters surrounding Quarteira, organisers point out. The captured fish and seafood is then distributed among the participants.
There will also be a musical programme with a wide range of performances which aims to “cater to all tastes” throughout the event’s three days.
The performances begin on Friday with Valter Cabrita (7pm), Remember Me 80’s&90’s (9pm), and Raya (1pm, followed on Saturday by Som Time (7pm), Fado with José Manuel Ferreira and Beatriz Pereira (8pm), Luciana Abreu (9.30pm), and Sai do Chão – Tribute to Ivete Sangalo (11pm). Lastly on Sunday, the performers will include once again Valter Cabrita (7pm), followed by Tribute to Xutos e Pontapés (9pm), and Toy (10.30pm).
Admission is free.
