In the second ‘announcement’ in the last 24-hours that makes little sense, the newly appointed coordinator of the ‘testing task force’ Fernando Almeida told reporters that the plan is to roll-out mass testing in universities, public transports and concerts. Considering universities are not yet open and concerts are but a distant memory, this was probably more a PR stunt to show that a new task force designed to combat the virus has been created. A similar empty announcement came in parliament yesterday when the minister for interior administration declared – as if imparting news of great magnitude – that ‘there are no touristic trips planned for Portugal next week’. Considering there are also practically no hotels open, almost no flights or anywhere to eat or do anything beyond taking a walk, this was possibly what the Portuguese would describe as “a waste of saliva”.
