The second stage of the Algarve’s popular ‘Rota do Petisco’ (Tapas Route) has entered its final stretch and will come to a close on June 26 (Sunday). So if you are still interested in trying the many delicious tapas and sweets on offer, now is the time.
There are 72 restaurants, cafés and bars to choose from. Most of them are located in Ferragudo (18), followed by Silves and Monchique (14 each), Messines (nine), Lagoa/Porches (eight) and Carvoeiro and Estômbar/Parchal (four each).
The event will go on a break for July and August and return in September for one final stage in its hometown of Portimão.
This year’s Rota is setting many benchmarks.
Though Ferragudo has been included in previous events, it is the first time the borough of Lagoa as a whole is taking part.
It is also the first time it has started before the high season. But although the format is different, the concept remains the same.
People buy a ‘passport’, which is a guide to all venues and their menus.
Then for €3 they can sample a variety of typical dishes, accompanied by a drink. Local sweets and desserts can also be tasted for €2, while €1 of the passport’s cost will go to local charities and institutions.
The event has become one of the most popular gastronomic fixtures of the Algarve, generating €700,000 for businesses last year alone.
