TAP technicians demand end to wage cuts

Around 300 people gathered at the entrance to TAP Air Portugal in Lisbon yesterday to demand an end to cuts in wages for aircraft maintenance technicians (AMT), which for some workers represent “40% of their salary”, according to the union. “We have been subjected to cuts, in our case, of around 40% of salary, and now the market is opening up – we have several colleagues who have job opportunities outside Portugal – and, in practice, people are leaving because the level of cuts is unsustainable,” Paulo Manso, president of the Aircraft Maintenance Technicians Union (Sitema), told Lusa.
