Airline TAP has given Porto ‘an early Christmas present’ with the news that it is reopening routes to Milan and Barcelona, and flying once a day to London City (UK).
The airline is celebrating an “incredible year” says its CEO Fernando Pinto, in which it has “worked miracles”, carrying as many as 14 million passengers – an increase of 20% on numbers for 2016.
The major issue now, he told TSF radio, is finding a solution for Lisbon’s overworked airport which simply does not allow for any further flight growth.
Without a new airport – and fast – all expansion plans will be limited, he said, though the New Year will see two new routes inaugurated: one to Florence (Italy) and the other to Nouakchott, in Mauritania.
