TAP nightmare

Dear Editor,
Mindful of your recent stories on the troubles within TAP, my wife and I stepped onto a flight to Malaga at the weekend with a certain degree of trepidation.
Our booking had already been ‘bumped over’ to White Airlines – with the TAP assistant in Lisbon airport cheerily informing us that White’s planes came with propellers and did not “fall down”.
We weren’t sure what she meant by that, but were surprised to find little courtesy packages on our seats enclosing a delicious savoury croissant and bottle of water and all, on the outward leg of the journey, was faultless. Other than the fact that we were flying White, not TAP, we were perfectly satisfied, and we did not “fall down” anywhere.
The homeward journey however was entirely different.
We arrived at Malaga airport to discover the plane had already left! We went to find TAP’s counter and were told there wasn’t one! In fact, the only TAP representative wasn’t expected in before the next day! What were we to do? No one had any suggestions and we ended up having to book two extremely expensive short-haul flights home through Iberia airways.
Finally back in Lisbon after hours of stress, waiting and travelling, the TAP desk there said the flight had been changed four days before we flew and that we “should have received an email”!
As we now face an uphill struggle trying to wrestle some money back from this fiasco, I have to say it will take a great deal to persuade me ever to fly TAP again.
