TAP launches regular flights to Canada

Portugal’s ‘airline in ascendency’ TAP has added a new transatlantic link to its list of destinations, connecting Portugal to Canada – yet another country known for its many thousands of national emigrés.

The flights will take off from Lisbon five days a week (Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday) at 6.45pm, landing in Toronto at 10pm the same day.

Corresponding flights from Toronto to the capital will take off on the same days at 11.55pm, arriving in Lisbon at 12.15 pm local time.

The new service was inaugurated in Lisbon last weekend, with flights for the next few weeks all “practically full”.

Reports tabloid Correio da Manhã, more than 38,000 reservations were made in the weeks leading up to the new service, and plans now, says the paper, will be to launch ‘one-way tickets to Toronto’, possibly in September for €179.

A quick look at TAP’s website this morning shows round-trip flights from Lisbon to Toronto and back are on sale for €189.

The airline, still in State ownership but run by by a private consortium, launched its first transatlantic flights to Boston and New York last year.
