In a bid to avoid a “day of chaos”, TAP’s management has sent out a ‘change your flight plans’ appeal to the 40,000 passengers likely to be affected by the pilots’ strike on August 9.
An announcement on the company’s Facebook page says: “TAP informs its clients with valid reservations for flights on August 9 that they can change their flights for another date… or ask for a refund.”
The announcement comes as the airline’s management – backed by the government – stresses the August 9 strike date will only aggravate problems within the company.
Secretary of State for Transports, Sérgio Monteiro, says the government is right behind TAP’s administration and simply wants these latest problems sorted out as quickly as possible.
But pilots’ syndicate SPAC is steadfast. It points to “profound structural problems” within the organisation and seems unlikely to budge on its plan of action.
Meantime, hundreds of flights are being thrown into chaos. According to SIC, as many as 200 have been cancelled in the last 15 days.
