FORUM ALGARVE in Faro is opening an ice rink this week with the aim of raising funds for the replanting of cork trees in Serra do Caldeirão – an area that was devastated by the fires this summer.
The campaign, entitled Projecto de Recuperação da Área Ardida da Serra do Caldeirão, will profit from customers who pay to skate on the specially erected rink. Customers who wish to take advantage of this traditional festive activity will be asked to pay two euros for 20 minutes on the ice.
As well as skating, the centre is also hosting two exhibitions – one that will recreate Serra do Caldeirão and another which will present a series of photographs and maps identifying the burnt area to be reforested.
This initiative is the result of a partnership between Forum Algarve, Loulé and São Brás de Alportel Câmaras, the Associação de Produtores Florestais da Serra do Caldeirão and the Lions Club of Faro.
