This year will see the return of the Swim for Shoes campaign held on the beach in front of the Holiday Inn Algarve in Armação de Pêra.
The hotel is challenging brave swimmers to take the plunge straight into the sea from 11am on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day to help raise money to buy shoes for the children of the A Gaivota home in Albufeira.
“We are asking for as many people as possible to join in to ensure that we can provide all the children at the home with a new pair of shoes for 2011,” said Vicki Good of the Holiday Inn Algarve.
Those wanting to take part just need to be at the beach at 11am on each of the days with a towel and swimming costume or alternatively to come dressed as Father Christmas. Those taking part will be treated to a hot toddy, courtesy of the hotel after the swim.
Last year swimmers raised €1,400 after swimming in the hotel pool after bad weather prevented a swim in the sea.
