Taiwan wants government ministers to visit as well as MPs

Chang Tsu-che, Taiwan’s diplomatic representative in Portugal welcomed last week’s visit to the island of a delegation of Portuguese members of parliament, saying he hopes Portuguese ministers will do the same, to strengthen trade relations. A group of seven Portuguese MPs began a personal trip to Taiwan, authorised by the parliament, last Friday at a time when official visits by western politicians have drawn strong criticism from China. Tsu-che however said he was not concerned about Beijing’s reaction: ““We don’t consider (it), because anything Taiwan does or doesn’t do, China is always against it. Our aim is to seek more bilateral exchange and cooperation in all areas,” he said.
