IDC analysts have found that tablet computer sales increased a whopping 90.9% in Portugal in 2013 compared to figures from the previous year.
Although analysts reckon sales will eventually slow down, a two-digit growth is expected for the next three years.
Gabriel Coimbra, IDC’s general director in Portugal, explained that “the increasing versatility of these devices is creating new opportunities for the tablet industry” as companies begin to grasp the versatility of these clever devices.
“The rapid popularity of tablet computers has had a significant impact on the way consumers and organisations manage their electronic equipment,” he said.
His statement is reflected by sales of laptop computers, which fell 2% in the last three months of 2013.
But even with their 91% increase in sales, tablet popularity still lags behind that of smartphones, which remain the veritable ‘kings’ of electronic devices linked to the internet.
In 2013, over 4 million smartphones were sold in Portugal, while the figure for tablets stood at 700,000.
