Swimming ban imposed at Quarteira and Vale do Lobo beaches

UPDATE: Environmentnal agency APA has LIFTED the swimming ban after the latest tests revealed that the water quality had returned to normal.

Loulé Council announced yesterday (July 25) that the beaches of Quarteira and Vale do Lobo are closed for swimming until further notice due to water quality issues.

According to national press, the swimming ban was imposed due to the detection of the E.coli bacteria.

The official word from the local council is that the swimming ban was imposed after “regular systematic monitoring analysis” of bathing water quality revealed “above normal microbiological values”.

The council adds that “local and regional authorities with responsibilities in these areas are taking all necessary measures to restore the normal use of bathing waters on the affected beaches as quickly as possible.”

The municipality also informs that “counter-analyses are being carried out,” and the ban will remain in place until the results come back clean.
