A series of events at the Holiday Inn Algarve raised hundreds for charity.
A sandcastle competition held on Christmas Eve by the Holiday Inn Algarve raised €50 for the Swim for Shoes charity.
The competition was held at the Armação de Pêra beach in front of the hotel where competitors were asked to build a sandcastle containing at least four towers, a moat and a flag.
The Bonsall family won the competition with their Nativity sandcastle.
The following day more than 150 people dressed as Santa Claus gathered at the same beach to participate in the Christmas Day Swim for Shoes Dip where another €800 was raised.
Then on Boxing Day the hotel hosted a Treasure Hunt.
Participants took a small excursion around the town and beach to collect the required items before returning to the hotel where team ‘Jolly Rogers’ were announced as winners.
The event raised €60, which will also be added to the Swim for Shoes fund.
Concluding the sequence of events a final Swim for Shoes Dip was held on New Year’s Day, where participants gathered on the beach before paddling or completely immersing themselves into the sea.
A total of €1,278 was raised due to all Swim for Shoes events that took place throughout the festive season, which will be used to purchase new shoes for many children in care at the Gaivota home in Albufeira.
