Sweets from heaven in Lagoa next week

Lagoa will be hosting its popular sweets fair ‘Mostra do Doce Conventual’ next week from Wednesday, July 17 to Sunday, July 21 at the town’s São José convent.

The event is a sweet tooth’s dream, allowing visitors to taste a variety of traditional sweets inspired by nuns’ century-old recipes. The century-old atmosphere of the convent is also “faithfully recreated”.

But the stars of the show are undoubtedly the sweets, most of them made from local Algarve ingredients such as carobs, almonds and figs. There will also be jams, honey, liqueurs and Monchique’s famous Medronho.

Live music has always been part of the programme and will be joined this year by daily video mapping events (a way of projecting imagery onto a surface, making virtually any object into a screen). Visitors will also be able to enjoy an exhibition entitled ‘Arte Doce’ by Lagoa cake designer Ana Remígio.

Doors open at 7pm each day and admission is free.
