Sweet tooth heaven in Alcoutim

Sweet tooth heaven in Alcoutim

Billed as the “sweetest event to take place in the municipality”, Alcoutim’s Feira de Doces d’Avó (grandmother’s sweets fair) is back for its 9th edition between April 18 and 19 at the local waterfront.
Besides showcasing some of the Algarve’s most traditional sweets, the event will also offer a number of Easter-themed workshops, such as egg painting or the baking of the traditional Portuguese Easter cake ‘folar’ – a doughy sweet-bread with an egg in the middle of it.
This year, guests will also be able to learn how to bake small ‘bonbons’ using typically-Algarvean ingredients and flavours.
Musical entertainment is guaranteed, with performances by local band Uns & Outros on Friday, as well as Grupo Etnográfico de Quelfes and the folk groups from Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo and Martin Longo on Saturday.
The fair, organised by the local council, will be open from 2pm to 7pm.
