Sweet status

The European Commission granted sweet potatoes produced in Aljezur a protected geographical indication (PGI) on August 18.

This status guarantees the particular qualities of this Algarve product and recognises its specific nature, to the benefit of local producers as well as consumers.

The PGI status has also been granted to Algarve’s citrus fruits and other Portuguese products such as morcela, a type of blood sausage from Estremoz and Borba (Alentejo), Cova da Beira cherries and Azores meat.
