Aljezur – home to the “best sweet potato in the world” – is preparing to host another Sweet Potato Festival between November 25 and 27 at Espaço Multiusos.
Organised by the local council and the association of Aljezur Sweet Potato Producers, the event aims to promote the local ‘Lyra’ sweet potato variety.
The climate, along with the know-how of local producers, are what make this variety so special, says Aljezur council.
Over 90 exhibitors will be taking part, some highlighting the different ways of cooking with the sweet potato to create mouth-watering dishes. Visitors will be able to try them roasted or fried, or simply purchase them raw.
The local sweet potato is also the ‘star of the show’ when it comes to sweets. Aljezur confectioners will be in attendance, using the beloved ingredient to make a variety of cakes and pastries.
The event would not be complete without musical entertainment, and the full line-up is expected to be announced soon.
Doors will open on all three days at 12 noon and close at 2am on November 25 and 26, and at 10pm on November 27.
Admission and parking are free.
