Two events celebrating Algarve’s typical sweets will take place this month.
The delightful Convento de S. José in Lagoa will be holding the 11th Convent Sweets Show (Mostra do Doce Conventual) from July 17 to 21.
The secrets of traditional cloister desserts and sweets won’t be unveiled, but visitors will be able to taste some of the best that Algarve gastronomy has to offer in the atmospheric 18th-century convent.
The event runs from 6pm to 10.30pm each day and entrance is free.
The last weekend of July is dedicated to ‘sweet art’ in Lagos with the return of the Arte Doce fair.
The event, held at the Complexo Desportivo de Lagos between July 26 and 28, brings under one roof the best of the locally made sweets and cakes, which are often made with almonds and figs.
Now in its 26th year, Arte Doce gives visitors the chance to purchase some of these sweet delights, as well as liquors, dried fruits, honey and even handicrafts.
Doors to the event open at 6pm and close at midnight each day. Entrance is free.
