Following last week’s announcement that Sven-Goran Eriksson is to head up the soon-to-open Cascade Resort Football Academy in Lagos, the 62-year-old Swede has secured his personal presence at the World Cup in South Africa this summer.

The former Benfica and England manager, who also enjoyed spells in charge of Lazio Rome, Manchester City, Mexico and most recently Notts County as Director of Football, has taken on the job of guiding the Ivory Coast through the big tournament.

Unfortunately Eriksson has thus committed himself to plotting the downfall of his adopted homeland, finding himself in direct competition with Portugal during the opening group matches which will also involve Brazil and North Korea.
