A suspected pedophile has told a court that the images of child pornography found on his home computer belonged to his son, at the time aged only 12. Miguel Cunha, the owner of a school tutorial centre in Penafiel is charged with seven counts of the sexual abuse of underage girls. While the case continues, he is “free” and allowed to continue daily business contact with children.
It is a situation that finds parents of the children who alleged sexual abuse “unable to disguise their repulsion”, writes national tabloid Correio da Manhã.
Cunha is described as denying all the charges against him, although the children involved have given detailed testimonies “for future memory” – to preclude the need for them to stand up in court.
CM claims that the girls have described how the 55-year-old forced them into committing sex acts on various occasions when they were aged between 10 and 11.
The next date for the trial has been set for Monday, September 14, with Cunha already trying unusual tactics to elude the waiting posse of reporters.
According to CM he took a change of clothing into court yesterday which he hoped would deflect attention as he left the building.
He was not successful, and there were “moments of extreme tension”, writes the paper.
In the dock, Cunha had blamed his son for the pornographic images, then saying “anyone in the family” could feel attracted to children.
CM added that the girls who have alleged sexual abuse have all been counselled by psychologists and been through “very difficult moments”.
One father described how his daughter would not let him kiss or cuddle her after the alleged abuse. “She just pulled away”, he told the paper.
