A man suspected of taking part in an attack on a British woman at her home near Lagos on February 24 has been arrested by Portimão Polícia Judiciária.
As reported in the Algarve Resident issue of March 1, the victim, in her fifties, was beaten and robbed by three masked men inside her property in a secluded and quiet area of Bensafrim.
The trio tied her hands together, beat her and threatened her with a gun before stunning her with a taser gun after she failed to present them with a safe.
After taking her Portuguese bank card, they continued to hit the woman over the head and forced her into telling them the correct pin code of the card.
It was discovered later that cash had been withdrawn from the bank account on the same day of the robbery.
The robbers fled the scene, leaving her tied up inside the house and taking with them several other valuables, such as jewellery and computers. The woman managed to free herself and seek help.
The suspect, 22, is currently under preventive prison while detectives continue investigations into the crime.
