Surprising announcement

Passengers on board a Flybe flight from Cardiff to Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris were shocked when the pilot told them they would be turning back because he was not qualified to land the plane.

It has since transpired that the pilot, with 30 years experience in aviation, was not qualified to land in fog as he only held a level five certificate and required one at level two.

The Civil Aviation Authority has described the incident as “unusual but probably not unheard of” stating that the pilot probably thought that conditions were going to be suitable for landing when he first took off.
