Surgeries delayed due to air con failings at Caldas da Rainha hospital

Caldas da Rainha hospital is cutting back on scheduled surgeries, due to failings in its air conditioning system. The administrative board has stressed teams are still performing ‘urgent’ and cancer surgeries. Condition however remain “deplorable”, with temperatures in the surgical bloc reaching 27ºC, when by law they should not exceed 22ºC. It is not that the air con doesn’t work, explain reports: it is simply too old to cope with elevated temperatures. A tender is already out for a substitute system, and once this is in place, the hospital means to return to ‘normal business’ …
