Support for pets of the homeless

Pets owned by underprivileged families and the homeless will be receiving support in a joint partnership between an association for homeless individuals (Associação CASA) and another for stray animals (Associação Animais de Rua).

The two associations explain on their project’s Facebook page that their goal is to provide food, sterilisation and basic health care for the animals of individuals who most of the time are isolated from society, solely depend on the company of their pets and do not have the means to take care of them.

Due to the increasing rate of poverty and homelessness across the country, the associations considered it necessary to create the project, especially because of their closeness to the reality of these families.

Associação CASA has been helping the underprivileged since 2002 by providing support, food and housing to hundreds of people in need, similarly to Associação Animais de Rua, which has been promoting animal protection for the last eight years, namely through its CED programme, aimed at controlling the proliferation of stray animals.

Donations are welcomed by the associations “in order to not allow those who have lost everything to lose their best friends as well”.
