Crowds of over 30,000 arrived at Portimão’s racetrack (AIA) last weekend (June 5-7) to watch the world’s best riders race in the Superbike FIM World Championship.
In the Superbike category, Northern Irish racer Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki) showed why he currently leads the Championship, winning both races and leaving his teammate and closest rival Tom Sykes even further behind in second place.
Frenchman Jules Cluzel – placed second in the Supersport category – finished the race in first place ahead of championship leader Kenan Sofuoğlu.
And beating championship No. 1 Lorenzo Savadori, Roberto Tamburi from Italy – also placed second – was also able to come in first in the Superstock 1000 category.
The weekend also marked the official goodbye of Algarve racer Miguel Prata, who is retiring from international competitions after many years racing for the AIA Parkalgar team.
Prata ended his international career on a “high”, finishing in 15th in the Supersport category.
