Super Tuesday: 43, 513 recover in last 24-hours; 33,340 new cases

Portugal’s Covid swings-and-roundabouts continues today with the uplifting news that over 10,000 more people ‘recovered’ after testing positive than were sent in isolation for the same reason. Numbers in hospital fell slightly (by 24, to 1,564), but still 28 people who had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 died – and that, as numbers go, is on the high side for a typical daily count. That said, the average winter death toll from flu is well within this ballpark (indeed, some flu seaons have seen between 40-50 die per day in January, virologist Pedro Simas has explained).
