Super-safe speedy lifeboat arrives in Ferragudo

It is a state-of-the-art rescue boat that can navigate through any kind of conditions, reach speeds of 83kph and has a capsize-failsafe facility which means it bobs back round to the right position if ever turned over.
“It is an incredibly agile boat which will become our first line of intervention in rescue operations and shipwrecks,” Portimão ports authority boss Santos Pereira said of the €165,000 boat that arrived in Ferragudo’s ISN rescue centre last week.
The 8.6 metre craft substitutes an 18-year-old Sea Rib, which will now go to the ISN station in Sagres.
Meantime, Ferragudo’s sea rescue HQ is undergoing a €180,000 facelift “after years of degradation”, writes Correio da Manhã. Renovation works should be complete in time for the start of the busy summer season.
