Summer to be “even hotter than usual”

Weather specialists are forecasting this summer will be even “hotter than usual” in Portugal.

With temperatures in June already 6ºC higher than normal and last May being described as the third hottest since records began (1931), chances are the scorching weather will continue.

Meteorology professor Carlos Pires told TSF radio that it will depend on “the intensity and duration of the upcoming heat waves”, which are likely to keep temperatures above 35ºC throughout most of the country.

The Algarve will be particularly blistering this weekend, with maximums of 38ºC expected in Faro on Saturday (June 24).

Temperatures are set to cool down on Sunday however as rain is expected almost everywhere except the south coast.
