Summer security

A total of 80 police personnel were due to join the Algarve’s existing 1,171 GNR on July 1 as part of the security reinforcement plan for this summer.

The reinforcements are mainly to be allocated to busy areas such as Albufeira, Quarteira, Vilamoura, Armação de Pêra and Monte Gordo.

“Security is a priority issue for the government,” said Faro civil governor, Isilda Gomes.

“This year, unlike what has happened before, the GNR reinforcements will anticipate the great influx of tourists in some areas of the region, such as Albufeira.”
