Summer party

The Algarve Wine Society celebrated the mid-point of the year by throwing a wonderful Summer Party recently. Jane and Bob Oliphant, Society members and owner-managers of Barringtons in Vale do Lobo hosted the event, which attracted more than 60 guests to the outdoor terrace of the club.

Buffet tables were loaded with treats; there were three outdoor grills cooking up everything from steaks to ribs, hamburgers, sausages and seafood, the wines were plentiful and the meal was rounded off with a memorable dessert buffet. A very spirited raffle brought the usual cheers and frustrations. Live music played throughout and those members still mobile after their wonderful repast danced the evening away.

The Wine Society will now take its usual summer break, but there is a very full slate of autumn events, including several tastings (the first on September 8) and a really special week-long trip to Burgundy, leaving September 27. There will also be a visit to the Quinta do Miradouro winery in Guia (makers of Cliff Richard’s Vila Nova wine) in mid-October. Of course, the Society’s members are also looking forward to their traditional Christmas lunch in mid-December and a gourmet dinner in January.
