Summer League match at Valverde

It was another beautiful Algarve morning of June 20 for our Summer League match at Valverde Bowling Club in Almancil. The green was in lovely condition and a credit to the greenkeeper. It had been mowed before our game, making the rinks slightly heavier as it had not been rolled, but this was no problem to any of the teams.

The Don Camillo restaurant again provided both drinks and food for everyone during the day. Maggie Dance was the Umpire for the day.

The results were: Valverde Vikings took eight points from Albufeira Wildcats who won two; Pedras Panthers won two points from Valverde Vulcans who took eight points; Tavira Tigers were the top scoring team this week, taking all 10 points from Floresta Falcons; Alvor Egrets won four points from Balaia Dolphins who won six points; whilst Alvor Kestrels won two points from Floresta Squirrels who won eight points.

The top of the table is becoming close with Valverde Vulcans pulling ahead on 57 points; chasing closely behind is Tavira Tigers on 51 points. Team-mates Valverde Vikings are third in the table with 43 points. With two games still to be played, there is still room for the top teams to fight it out. The strongest team this week is Floresta Falcons bringing up the rear with 13 points.

The outstanding game between Albufeira Wildcats and Balaia Dolphins is scheduled to be played during this coming week, as well as the programmed game. This should bring all the games in line with each other for the final week of the season.
