Summer fires continue

Bombeiros from Portimão, Lagos, Silves, Lagoa and Albufeira were assisted by the GNR and a helicopter in putting out a fire in the Torralta area of Alvor on July 19.

The fire broke out at 3.45pm but by 5.30pm the fire had been brought under control by the 40 people involved in the operation.

Meanwhile, another fire in the Lagoa area saw Bombeiros from Lagoa, Silves, Portimão and Monchique work to put out the flames on July 13.

Resident Isobel Costa said: “The fire broke out around 5pm in an abandoned vineyard just outside Lagoa and for over an hour fire fighters fought the blaze and by 8pm the Bombeiros from Lagoa were still on the scene.”

She added: “Local residents were also quick to react with their own garden hoses to prevent the fire from spreading onto their properties and were full of praise for the fire fighting services of the Bombeiros.”
