Suicidal tendencies

After road accidents, suicide is the leading cause of death among 14 to 24 year olds in Portugal.

Although more rare, suicide cases in childhood are beginning to be registered according to the Portuguese Society of Suicidology (SPS).

“Making schools more attractive and giving parents the opportunity to spend more time with their children can help prevent suicidal tendencies in children and young people, who are increasingly fending for themselves,” said Augusto Carreira, President of the Portuguese Association of Psychiatry of Children and Adolescents.
