A walk to a Loulé beauty spot with friends ended in tragedy last week when a 68-year-old man went into cardiac arrest, dying before he could be airlifted to hospital.
The Portuguese man started to feel unwell in the rural area of Rocha da Pena.
Despite the quick response from rescue services, poor access made it difficult for INEM staff and firefighters to reach the man.
Loulé’s Kamov helicopter was scrambled within minutes of receiving the call for help, but when rescuers found the victim, there was nothing they could do to save him.
