THE CHAÎNE des Rôtisseurs has inaugurated a new chapter in the Algarve recently, the Bailliage d’Algarve, with different events taking place at different locations.
Among others, there were lunches at the famous two Michelin star restaurant Vila Joya in Albufeira and restaurant Camané on the island of Faro, as well as a beach barbecue at Búzios in Praia de Vilamoura. One of the highlights was the Chaîne Cup Golf Tournament at the new Victoria golf course plus a guided visit to the natural salinas in Ria Formosa.
In total, 44 members and international guests (including four members who travelled from Austria especially to participate in the chapter meeting) celebrated the official investiture during a gala dinner at the Vilamoura Marinotel. On this occasion, 19 new members were dubbed by Aníbal Soares, President of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Portugal.
All were sworn into their specific ranks with the appropriate collar chain and medal on a purple ribbon, they took an oath to honour the art of cuisine and the culture of the table and to always fulfil the duty of fraternity and respect of the fellow members. Their new membership entitles them to participate in any of the functions organised by any of the chapters worldwide.
The objective of La Chaîne is to promote gastronomy and the culture de la table in all countries, by encouraging, in particular, the development of the culinary arts. The new Bailliage d’Algarve will implement its objectives through the organisation of meals, conferences, conventions, competitions, chapter meetings, exhibitions and gastronomic demonstrations.
The world headquarters of La Chaîne is located in Paris. Originally established in France in 1248 by Louis IX, it flourished for over 500 years until the French Revolution, when it was abolished along with all the other guilds. A modern incarnation of La Chaîne was re-established in Paris in 1950 and has since grown to 90,000 members in 150 countries.
Responsible for the activities of Bailliage d’Algarve is president Manfred G. Matysik. He can be contacted on 282 767 969 or via email at [email protected]. If you would like to know more about the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, visit www.chainept.org
