Success for SOS animals

Volunteers of the SOS Algarve Animals charity held their first fundraising event on October 7, raising almost €4,500 for a sterilisation programme for abandoned dogs and cats in

the region.

More than 150 people showed their support for the event at the Melting Pot in Quinta do Lago, with Fine Dining providing the catering, Circo Pequeno the entertainment for the children and DJ Karlocci getting the party started on the decks.

The winner of the star prize on the evening was Roger Eamont, who won tickets to Wembley in the charity raffle.

SOS Algarve Animals is a group dedicated to finding homes for cats and dogs but used their first event as an opportunity to raise money for dog and cat sterilisation and neutering.

Co-founder Laura McGeoch said: “Sadly the cost of sterilisation is outside the means of many families in Portugal so we feel that organisations that help animals in the Algarve must also look towards the bigger picture and assistance must be made to stop the constant birth of unwanted puppies and kittens.”
